Testing and retrieving vehicle data from the CAN Bus network has never been easier. With the FMS Data Test Kit, you have access to user-friendly tools that help you extract CAN data and understand the information provided. The kit also includes vehicle simulator firmware and descriptions to help you identify and interpret the data.
One of the benefits of the FMS Data Test Kit is the simulator firmware pre-installed on the FMS gateway. This allows you to test the system at your desk before moving on to vehicle testing. If you encounter any issues, Inventure's support team of engineers is available to help you remotely.
Our state-of-the-art simulator firmware goes above and beyond the standard FMS testing parameters. While the average test covers 20 parameters such as vehicle motion, vehicle overspeed, tachograph performance, and fuel rate, our firmware delivers over 80. This means that you have the opportunity to test additional parameters such as acceleration time, brake time, average speed, and many more. With our advanced testing capabilities, you can ensure the highest level of accuracy and precision in evaluating vehicle performance.
In this blog post, we'll break down the steps for testing the FMS Data Test Kit first in an office environment and then on a selected vehicle.
Desktop Testing:
- Power the FMS Gateway with a lab bench or a 12-volt battery.
- Connect the FMS Gateway to your AVL device via CAN or RS232 input. If you're using RS232 output, you can also connect the FMS Gateway to your computer without leaving out the AVL device.
- When using CAN output, configure your AVL device by enabling the CAN Acknowledgement option, which may be displayed as "CAN Normal mode," "CAN Active mode," or "CAN R/W mode."
- The simulator pre-installed on the firmware will start sending data in half-minute cycles without the need for a vehicle on the input side.
- Use the supplied simulator manual to identify the incoming parameters easily.
- If you need to receive data via RS232 input or if you need non-FMS standard data for the CAN network, we'll provide you with the relevant protocol help manual.
- Check the setting on the FMS Gateway. As long as the LED on the device flashes yellow five times cyclically, it indicates that the connection has not been successful. When it turns green, it means that your setup is successful.
Vehicle Testing:
- Based on the list of test vehicles you sent us, we'll propose a test vehicle.
- Once you have selected a vehicle, we'll send you three materials: the firmware link for the vehicle, the firmware reconfiguration guide, and the instructions for connecting the CAN Sensor and the FMS Gateway.
- Install the appropriate firmware.
- Install the contactless CAN reader sensor on the CAN bus wires according to the instructions.
- Connect the CAN Sensor to the FMS Gateway.
- Power the FMS Gateway and connect it to your AVL device.
- If the green light comes on on both devices, you have successfully established the connection.
